Louisville’s Bring-Your-Guns-to-Church Day

A pastor in Louisville, Ky., has invited gun owners to bring their open-carry guns to church to celebrate the Fourth of July and Second Amendment.

I have a feeling that this church will be safe from any lunatics who want to see how many unarmed people they can shoot, and not only on that day.

Brits and Guns

Rachel Lucas wonders why stories like this don’t result in Brits marching the streets demanding the right to arm and defend themselves.

Maybe it’s because they realise that if you want a government that nannies you from cradle to grave, you can’t demand the right to own guns from it. And, frankly, their government is probably right keeping guns away from a people like this.

Quite simply, guns are for grown-ups.

“Made in Montana” for Gun Rights and States’ Rights

Montana legislators are picking a court fight with the feds for sovereignty over guns and states’ rights:

Under a proposed law before the Legislature, firearms, weapons components and ammunition made in Montana and kept in Montana would be exempt from federal regulation, potentially releasing some Montanans from national gun registration and licensing laws. The legislation could also free gun purchasers in the state from background checks.

Still, the bill’s proponents say the measure has much bigger prey in its sights.

“Firearms are inextricably linked to the history and culture of Montana, and I’d like to support that,” said Republican Rep. Joel Boniek, the bill’s sponsor. “But I want to point out that the issue here is not about firearms. It’s about state rights.”

Gun rights and state rights both play well in Montana. The state’s leading gun rights organization boasts it has moved 50 bills through the Legislature in half as many years. And bills bucking federal control over wolf management, marijuana and wetland protection are also being considered. Unlike these others, though, the ‘Made in Montana’ measure has been intentionally drafted to draw the feds into court.

L.A. Times Runs a Hilarious Guns Turn-in Program Story, Commenters Have a Field Day

They are getting pretty inventive in the stories they tell people to vilify legal gun ownership:

[Bell Gardens Police Lt. Jeff] Travis said that last Sunday pastors at several churches told congregants about the program. The next day, a distraught man took his gun to his pastor.

The man said he bought the gun after discovering that his wife was leaving him for another man. He planned to shoot his wife and her boyfriend, and then turn the gun on himself, Travis said. The man then asked his pastor to turn the gun over to police for him, Travis said.

The man has since received counseling and is “working through this,” Travis said, adding that their work today might have saved lives.

Best comment:

I encourage all gun owners to take their junkiest guns and use these government gun purchase programs as a method to obtain cold cash to buy better guns. I used to be upset about these programs, but they really are good – they take guns out of circulation, allowing gun companies to sell more guns to and prosper, and they allow honest gun owners to sell junk that no one wants so they can buy more guns. What’s better than that?
