Published: January 9th, 2009
A white college kid has a plan for America.
Is any government spending now officially a form of economic stimulus?

Well, Obama has gone along with Republican requests that a substantial portion of the economic stimulus package come in the form of tax cuts.
If tax cuts can be a form of economic stimulus, then surely any government spending would amount to a stimulus.
At least that proposal for slavery reparations as an economic stimulus proposes how it would stimulate the economy. The writer suggests that the black community is likely to use most of the money for consumer spending and other economically beneficial items, like repaying home mortgages and paying for higher education. Economists are worried that tax cuts in a deep recession will end up being used by taxpayers mostly for savings, which won’t stimulate the economy.

I’m glad to hear it, because reading your blog had given me the opposite impression.

If you’d had the chance to look more closely at my blog, you’d see that I frequently mention that I’m not in favor of reparations for slavery.
I do have a great deal of respect for the underlying analysis on behalf of reparations. But then, I find that most people do, once they understand the basic facts involved.
