Bettie Page died yesterday at the age of 85, and Jezebel (NSFW) writes about what made her the best at what she did:
There are models, and then there was Bettie Page. What was it about the smiling girl with the pageboy that so captured the pop culture imagination? As the following pictures (some NSFW) show, a lot.
Posing nude felt normal to her, and it showed. She obviously enjoyed it much more “than pounding a typewriter eight hours a day, which gets monotonous”, as she would say some 40 years after that part of her life was over. Plus the beauty, of course.
